Why modern marketing requires a crystal ball

A couple of weeks ago, Forbes Agency Council member Tellef Lundevall released a quote on the critical nature of staying up-to-date;

“The biggest challenge is staying ahead of the pace of change. While Google and the social networks constantly tweak their ad offerings and platform functionality, user preferences also shift fast. You need to be in tune not just with how you’re able to reach potential customers but also how customers want to be reached. Being an expert on just one or the other will mean you get left behind.”

In order for content to thrive, it needs to be good quality and up to date. If you manage a content marketing team, it’s crucial that they’re up to date with the latest trends around SEO, content marketing, social media, web design, CRO, performance marketing, and tons of other sub-specialties. 

Just like businesses, customers are ever-changing too. What they like today might not be their choice tomorrow. If they like your product today, it does not mean they will come back for more tomorrow unless you have set the pitch and the right rapport with them.

A significant advantage of staying up-to-date is that you will be able to forecast better. Sales predictions will help your business grow exponentially as it helps in right decision making. When you are aware of the happenings in the digital world, you will be able to predict future sales and other statistics easily. This will channel your resources in the right direction.

Digital marketing tools make handling brands and customers easier. These make work so simplified that you will be able to squeeze out some extra time that you can use to put in efforts to land a new client. Tools keep upgrading and new tools come in the market quite often.

As a marketer, you should be the first one to know the new tools and advancements. This will help you simplify your business activities. It can be quite overwhelming at times when you have too much to handle but if you make the right choices and use the right tools to organise your work platter, you will be all the more efficient.

In terms of how to stay up to date with marketing trends, looking at case studies is a great way to start. Whose TikTok ads do you admire? Which Instagram story ads catch your eye? Competitor analysis is just as important as optimizing your web page. Look for the big players in the industry and keep a track on what and how they’re approaching things and how they are implementing new trends to favour their business.
