TikTok launches program to pay creators for popular filters and effects

TikTok has launched a program called Effect Creator Rewards to pay creators for their popular filters and effects.

The program has a $6 million fund, and creators will be paid based on the number of videos that use their filters and effects. If a filter is used in 500,000 videos within 90 days, the creator will earn $700. They will also earn an extra $140 for every additional 100,000 videos above the baseline.

However, the qualifications for earning money are challenging, and the $6 million fund is much smaller compared to the $1 billion fund dedicated to popular content creators in the past. Additionally, creators face competition from filters created by TikTok itself.

Previously, creators monetized their work through brand partnerships, commissions, or selling filters outside of TikTok.
