London based fashion designer Sydney Pimbley is proof that sustainable fashion is high fashion. A graduate of Central Saint Martins and a recipient of the LVMH Grand Prix Scholarship, Pimbley’s creations are beautifully feminine in a grounded, ethereal fashion.
Sydney’s creations are founded on the principles of sustainability and authenticity. Her work is renowned for its unique quality, creating handmade garments and up-cycled clothing that is intricate, delicate, stylish and beautiful.
Her knitwear and use of exquisite fabrics, trims and embroidery are inspired by her Welsh heritage. Each element is creatively collaged from vintage sources combined with layers of hand detailing and finishing to produce ethical luxury fashion collections.
Her own-name fashion brand launched in 2019 and encompasses 6 collections, the latest entitled ‘Flower Duet’ which is a culmination of the designer’s two greatest passions – horticulture and fashion. Flower Duet explores the physical and visual qualities of compositions, the subtle nuances of colour and texture reflecting that of nature, with fabric as the medium. As the song in Léo Delibes opera Lakmé says “Let’s descend together” into the vibrant, life affirming world. The collection sees a lot of fringe, lace and graphic prints from Paris’ skyline to childhood fairytale drawings from the 1930s and 40s.
Prior to the launch of her slow fashion brand, Sydney worked in the couture studio of Maison Margiela assisting John Galliano.
Sydney Pimbley is available to purchase from Wolf & Badger, MaiMoun New York and Garmentory.
