Glasgow Design Studio’s Visual Identity for Rise, a Scottish Charity for Refugee Women

Rise is a brilliant Scottish social enterprise on a mission to empower refugee women and bring then opportunities by teaching practical skills and qualifications to break down employment barriers in Scotland.

Rise brings a multicultural array of food to the people of Scotland – sharing recipes and dishes from across the globe at events, cafes and their very own supper clubs.

Extending out a helping hand is Glasgow-based design studio, Need, who has updated brand, tone of voice, website and range of digital assets. Inspired by the bold tone of the suffragette movement and its activism signage, Need’s design centres around equipping, enabling and empowering. These sentiments are expressed through a bold new typeface based on protest posters from the suffragette movement, paired with a bright and unapologetic palette. Through this new design element, Rise visually embodies the sense of strength and touch of playfulness that they carry through in their work.

Rise is Need’s chosen charity partner of the year and the enterprise received over £35,000 of funding, social media engagement and website traffic tripled and lots of positive feedback from the community.
