April Fools’ Day 2023: A roundup of brand pranks, from Pizza Hut’s pizza-less menu to BSSP’s insufferable AI creative director

April Fools’ Day 2023 is here, and brands are once again in the spirit of pranking their customers with some fun fake news. From dating apps to pizza chains, companies are getting creative with their hoaxes this year. Here are some of the highlights so far:

Butler, Shine, Stern & Partners: This California agency has introduced its new AI creative director, C.R.A.I.G. The insufferable machine has been trained on thousands of hours of creative director behavior and is now causing chaos in the workplace with vague and obscure feedback, an obsession with TikTok, and a tendency to avoid menial tasks like filling out timesheets.

Tinder: In response to members’ complaints, Tinder has announced that it will remove all fish pictures from member profiles. Apparently, 92% of singles reported “getting the ick” after coming across a potential match’s picture holding a fish they just caught.

Duolingo + Peacock: Duolingo and Peacock have teamed up to produce a new dating show based on Duolingo’s language app. The show features 10 singles who all speak different languages and must learn another language to date. They will be eliminated by the show’s host and judge, Duo the Owl, if they fail to do their daily Duolingo language lessons or find a match by the end of an episode.

Welch’s Fruit Snacks: Inspired by its Juicefuls snacks, Welch’s Fruit Snacks has introduced Ranchfuls, a new kind of saucy snack with zesty flavor. The product is supposedly made with pure buttermilk as the main ingredient, real fruit and veggies, and no artificial colors or flavors.

Pizza Hut: In a shocking move, Pizza Hut has announced that it will remove pizza from its menu and replace it with melts, made for a pizza party of one for $6.99. Pizza Hut Melts launched in October and have quickly become a customer favorite, according to the brand.

Butterfinger and I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter: In a strange brand collaboration, Butterfinger and I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter have joined forces to create a new product.

Little Caesars: Little Caesars has invented something truly unique, the Corncob Crust.

Nutella and Tic Tac: Nutella and Tic Tac have created a new product that features Tic Tacs shaped like tiny jars of Nutella.

Vitail: This pet wellness brand has introduced CBD gummies for dog owners in their April Fools’ Day campaign.

M.I.’s Westside Comedy Theater: This Los Angeles comedy club has released a new signature scent called L’HUMOR to celebrate its 14th anniversary.

These are just some of the many pranks that brands have come up with this year. It’s always fun to see what companies will come up with next, and we can’t wait to see what else will be unveiled over the weekend. Happy April Fools’ Day!
