Apple’s antitrust lawsuit & “realiity”

The U.S. Department of Justice is in the early stages of drafting an antitrust lawsuit against Apple, according to a report.

Angry developers…Apple’s tight control of its App Store has angered developers who want to be able to market their apps directly to consumers. A report suggests a potential legal action could come by the end of the year, but that no decision has been made yet on whether to sue Apple.

Angry competition…Apple accused of engaging in unfair competition with AirTag rival Tile. When Apple’s AirTag launched it did so with direct access to iPhone’s ultra-wideband technology. Tile had argued that it shouldn’t have to give up its direct relationship with its customers through its own app.

The investigation comes as Apple faces increased scrutiny for the way it breaks down revenues from its Services division, which includes advertising and subscription services like Apple Pay.

Also in Apple newstrademark filings spotted by Bloomberg suggest Apple might incorporate “Reality” in the name and branding of its long-rumoured mixed reality headset. Three separate filings show trademarks for “Reality One,” “Reality Pro,” and “Reality Processor,” matching the realityOS name that cropped up in Apple’s code and a trademark application that potentially refers to the headset’s operating system.
